I am a reader of KT and this letter is to raise the awareness about the extra charges the schools are imposing at the start of the new academic year.
Richard Harrison’s observations regarding the influence of mobile texting on the English language in general is quite relevant and hit the nail on the head. One observes the deterioration of longer communication in writing. Self-expression is greatly influenced by the interference of social networking language as well.
The trial of Norwegian lone gunman Anders Breivik has taken on a bizarre twist — a self-confessed hater of Muslims, and a proponent of a Norway, free of multi-culturalism, who has taken some inspiration — from none other than the Al Qaeda!
I was a spectator at the 3on3 streetball tournament in Sharjah on the weekend and witnessed three teams from Abu Dhabi come into a very hostile environment of local Sharjah and Dubai supporters and participants and win all three major categories (Men’s A, Women’s A, CO-ED) at the tournament!
The declaration of summer and winter vacations as unified holidays would definitely have its own advantages to everyone in some way but the announcement for such a change in schedule should have been done much earlier.
The special pages took me back in time. Someone has told me that the KT offices have a museum of the past and there are pictures of those times gone by that are exceptional. Is this open to the public and can we come there and view them?
The op-ed article by Manu Joseph ‘Nepotism in politics’ (KT/ April 15) is a true reflection of the current Indian politics but I would like to differ on few of his comments about the Indian heritage of grooming children.
This is in response to the news story regarding the Peace Convention held in Dubai (KT/ April 14) which was a good step forward in the direction of awareness. Though every religion favoured education for both boys and girls social customs and traditions were critical to women and responsible for their backwardness.
